How Much Fitness and Exercise Equipment is Needed for a Donation Pickup?
Our pickup service is intended for donations large enough to reasonably justify sending a vehicle to your location.
One resistance band, one yoga block or one small workout accessory will usually not qualify for pickup on its own.
A donation is more likely to qualify when it includes several weights, multiple boxes or bags of fitness accessories, a compact working exercise machine with additional equipment or fitness items combined with other accepted household donations.
Larger donations from families, fitness instructors, schools, businesses, moving projects, downsizing or estate cleanouts may also qualify.
You do not need to count every resistance band, weight collar or small accessory. Provide your best estimate of the number of weights, machines, mats, bags and boxes included.
The overall donation volume, condition, location and current pickup routes will determine whether pickup is available.
How to Prepare Fitness and Exercise Equipment for a Donation Pickup
Please prepare all fitness and exercise equipment before your scheduled pickup.
Clean every item: Wipe down weights, machines, mats, rollers and accessories. Wash activewear and fabric items before packing.
Remove sweat and residue: Make sure handles, seats, grips, mats and wearable items are clean and free from strong odours.
Inspect weights: Check dumbbells, kettlebells and plates for cracks, severe rust, sharp edges, loose handles and unstable components.
Separate heavy items: Do not place several heavy weights inside one large box. Divide them into safe, manageable loads.
Keep weight sets together: Keep matching dumbbells, adjustable plates, handles and locking collars together.
Inspect resistance bands: Remove bands that are cracked, split, stretched, brittle or frayed.
Keep band accessories together: Pack handles, clips, anchors and straps with the matching resistance bands.
Roll exercise mats: Clean and dry mats before rolling them. Secure each mat with a strap or place it inside a mat bag.
Check exercise balls: Make sure stability balls and small Pilates balls are free from punctures and slow leaks.
Keep plugs and pumps together: Place ball plugs, pumps and other removable accessories inside a labelled bag.
Test compact machines: Confirm that stationary bikes, steppers, compact ellipticals and pedal exercisers operate properly.
Check moving parts: Inspect pedals, seats, handles, adjustment knobs, resistance controls and stabilizing feet.
Test electronic functions: Confirm that powered displays and controls turn on and perform their main functions.
Include required parts: Keep power cords, adapters, battery covers, pedals, adjustment pins and instructions with the correct machine.
Secure loose components: Tighten or safely pack removable pedals, handles, knobs and accessories so they are not lost during transportation.
Fold equipment when designed to fold: Secure folding machines in their closed position before pickup.
Empty gym bags: Remove personal belongings, identification, keys, medication, electronics and other private items.
Pack small accessories: Place jump ropes, gloves, straps, clips, collars and training accessories inside strong bags or boxes.
Use manageable containers: Use several strong containers instead of one box that is too heavy to lift safely.
Label every container: Use labels such as Weights, Resistance Bands, Yoga Equipment, Workout Gear or Fitness Accessories.
Protect everything from weather: Store prepared fitness equipment indoors, in a dry garage or in another protected location until pickup.
Separate unacceptable equipment: Do not mix damaged, nonworking or contaminated items with equipment prepared for donation.
For complete instructions, review our how to prepare your donations page before pickup.
How Fitness and Exercise Equipment Donation Pickup Works
Step 1: Submit your pickup request: Complete the online form and provide your location, approximate number of weights, machines, mats, bags and boxes. Describe the main equipment included and mention any additional donation categories.
Step 2: We review your donation: We review your location, estimated donation volume, equipment types, size, weight, overall condition, how everything is packed, other accepted items included, available vehicle space and current route availability. We may request photos, measurements or additional information by email.
Step 3: Receive email confirmation: Your pickup is only scheduled after you receive confirmation by email. Preferred dates and times submitted through the form are requests and are not automatically secured.
Step 4: Prepare and stage your equipment: Clean and pack all approved fitness equipment. Test compact machines, divide weights into manageable loads and keep required parts and accessories together.
Step 5: We collect the approved items: Once your pickup is confirmed, our team collects the approved fitness and exercise equipment. Items that are broken, unsafe, nonworking, excessively heavy, improperly packed or significantly different from what was described may be declined.
