Stuffed Animal Donations We Accept

Stuffed animal donations can include traditional plush animals, teddy bears, character toys, collectible stuffies, fabric dolls, puppets and soft learning toys. Some only need to be checked for cleanliness and damage, while interactive toys, dolls and puppets may have electronic features, clothing or accessories that need to work or stay together.

The sections below explain the types of stuffed animals and plush toys we accept and what to check before adding them to your pickup request.

Why Condition Matters

Stuffed animals and plush toys are soft fabric items that can remain usable for years, but their condition matters more than it does for many hard-surface donations.

Moisture, mould, strong odours and contamination can become trapped in the fabric and filling, making an item difficult to clean properly and unsuitable for continued use. Serious tears or damaged internal parts can also make a plush toy unsafe or impossible to reuse as intended.

Normal signs of age are different from damage or contamination that affects whether the item can still be enjoyed safely.

Checking stuffed animals before donating helps make sure more of what we collect can stay in circulation instead of being discarded after pickup.

How Many Stuffed Animals Are Needed for Pickup?

Our pickup service is intended for stuffed animal donations large enough to reasonably justify sending a vehicle to your location.

One stuffed animal or a single small bag of stuffies will usually not qualify for pickup on its own.

A donation is more likely to qualify when it includes several full bags or boxes of stuffed animals, a larger plush toy collection or stuffies combined with other accepted donation categories.

Larger donations from families, schools, childcare providers, retailers, businesses, moving projects, downsizing or estate cleanouts may also qualify.

You do not need to count every individual plush toy. Provide your best estimate of the number of full bags, boxes or storage containers.

The overall donation volume, condition, location and current pickup routes will determine whether pickup is available.

How to Prepare Stuffed Animals for Donation Pickup

Please clean and prepare all stuffed animals, stuffies, plushies and soft toys before your scheduled pickup.

Inspect every item: Remove stuffed animals with mould, stains, strong odours, pest exposure, major tears, exposed stuffing or damaged internal components.

Read the care label: Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions whenever a care label is available.

Machine wash when appropriate: Place washable stuffed animals inside a mesh laundry bag or pillowcase to help protect them during washing.

Hand wash delicate items: Carefully clean older, handmade, collectible or fragile plush toys when machine washing could cause damage.

Spot clean when required: Use an appropriate cleaning method for plush toys that cannot be fully washed.

Dry everything completely: Stuffed animals must be completely dry inside and outside before packing. Damp plush toys can develop mould and strong odours.

Check for stains and odours: Do not pack plush toys that still have visible staining, smoke smells, pet odours or other strong scents after cleaning.

Remove excessive pet hair: Use a lint roller, soft brush or vacuum attachment when appropriate.

Repair minor loose seams: Close small openings before packing when the stuffed animal otherwise remains clean and usable.

Remove unsafe items: Do not include plush toys with loose plastic eyes, exposed wires, sharp pieces or damaged internal components.

Test interactive plush toys: Confirm that talking, singing, moving, musical and light-up features work properly.

Inspect battery compartments: Remove leaking, swollen or corroded batteries. Make sure battery compartments are clean and battery covers are present.

Keep accessories together: Place removable clothing, props, controls and accessories in a labelled bag with the correct stuffed animal.

Group similar items: Organize teddy bears, character plushies, baby plush toys, fabric dolls, puppets and interactive stuffed animals separately whenever practical.

Use clean packing materials: Pack stuffed animals in clean, dry bags, boxes or storage containers.

Do not use garbage bags that previously held waste: Only use new or completely clean bags that can be securely closed.

Avoid crushing collectible plush: Place collectible, vintage or structured plush toys in boxes rather than tightly packed bags.

Do not overpack: Use several manageable bags or boxes instead of one container that is difficult to lift.

Label every container: Use clear labels such as Stuffed Animals, Stuffies, Plush Toys, Collectible Plush, Baby Plush Toys or Interactive Plush Toys.

Protect everything from weather: Store the packed donation indoors, in a dry garage or in another protected location until pickup.

Separate unacceptable items: Do not mix stained, damp, damaged or contaminated stuffed animals with the items prepared for donation.

For complete instructions, review our how to prepare your donations page before pickup.

How Stuffed Animal Donation Pickup Works

Step 1: Submit your pickup request: Complete the online form and provide your location and approximate number of bags, boxes or storage containers. Describe the main types of stuffed animals included and mention any interactive plush, collectible plushies, oversized stuffies or additional donation categories.

Step 2: We review your donation: We review your location, estimated donation volume, types of stuffed animals, overall condition, how everything is packed, other accepted items included, available vehicle space and current route availability. We may request photos or additional information by email.

Step 3: Receive email confirmation: Your pickup is only scheduled after you receive confirmation by email. Preferred dates and times submitted through the form are requests and are not automatically secured.

Step 4: Prepare and stage your stuffed animals: Clean, inspect and completely dry all approved stuffed animals. Pack them in clean, manageable bags or boxes and separate them from anything that should not be collected.

Step 5: We collect the approved stuffed animals: Once your pickup is confirmed, our team collects the approved stuffed animal donations. Items that are stained, damp, damaged, contaminated, improperly packed or significantly different from what was described may be declined.
