Free Donation Pickups for Music CDs & Collections

DonateYourStuff.ca provides free scheduled donation pickup for qualifying CDs across the GTA and select surrounding communities. We accept music albums, singles, compilations, soundtracks, box sets, audiobooks and spoken-word recordings.

CDs should be clean and usable, with no cracks, deep scratches or damage that prevents them from playing. Discs should be kept in their matching cases or protected sleeves whenever possible.

Submit a pickup request with your location, the approximate number of CDs or boxes and a general description of what you have. We will review your request and contact you by email about pickup availability.

CD Donations We Accept

CD donations can include individual albums, singles, soundtracks, audiobooks and multi-disc collections. Some come in a single case, while larger sets may include several discs, booklets, artwork or outer packaging that should stay together.

The sections below explain the types of CDs we accept and the important details to check for each one before adding them to your pickup request.

Why Condition Matters

CDs can remain usable for decades when the disc is still playable and properly protected.

Serious damage can make a recording impossible to use, while moisture, mould and contamination can affect both the disc and the materials stored with it. Multi-disc releases can also lose much of their usefulness when important discs or identifying materials are missing.

Normal age, light surface marks and ordinary case wear are different from damage that prevents a CD from being used.

Checking your CDs before donating helps make sure more of the music, audiobooks and other recordings we collect can stay in circulation instead of being discarded after pickup.

  • Discs with peeling, bubbling or damaged data layers
  • Discs affected by mould, moisture or heavy contamination
  • Discs with sticky residue, paint, grease or chemicals
  • Homemade or burned music CDs
  • Recordable CD-R or CD-RW discs with unknown content
  • Computer backup discs
  • Personal data discs
  • Software installation discs
  • Blank recordable CDs
  • Empty CD cases with no discs
  • Large quantities of loose, unidentified discs
  • Loose discs packed without protective sleeves
  • Boxes containing broken jewel-case pieces or sharp plastic
  • Wet, damaged or collapsing boxes
  • CDs left loose or exposed to weather
  • Items that have not been prepared for pickup

Older CDs are not rejected simply because of their age.

Items that do not meet our donation standards may be declined at pickup.

How Many CDs Are Needed for Pickup?

Our pickup service is intended for donations that reasonably justify sending a vehicle to your location.

One or two CDs will usually not qualify on their own. Several boxes, a larger music collection, or a mixed donation containing CDs and other accepted items is more likely to qualify.

When completing the pickup form, provide your best estimate of:

  • The approximate number of CDs
  • The total number of boxes, bins, shelves, or storage units
  • Whether the collection includes box sets or multi-disc releases
  • Whether any discs are loose or stored in CD wallets
  • Whether the collection includes audiobooks or spoken-word recordings
  • Whether any releases are collectible, imported, autographed, or limited edition
  • Any other accepted donation categories included

You do not need to count every CD individually. A reasonable estimate based on the number of boxes, shelves, or storage units is enough.

Use sturdy, manageable boxes that remain safe for one person to lift. We review the total quantity, condition, packaging, available vehicle space, and route availability before confirming a pickup.

How to Prepare CDs for Donation Pickup

Please prepare your CDs before your scheduled pickup.

Check the playing surface of each CD when practical.

Remove discs that are cracked, badly warped, peeling, heavily contaminated or deeply scratched.

A light surface mark does not automatically make a CD unusable.

Place each CD in its matching jewel case, digipak, sleeve or box-set package whenever possible.

Make sure the correct disc is inside the correct case.

Keep box sets, double albums, multi-disc audiobooks and complete collections together.

Include all available booklets, inserts, slipcovers and outer boxes.

A lightly cracked jewel case may be acceptable.

Remove or replace cases that are shattered, have sharp plastic edges or no longer protect the disc.

Do not place loose pieces of broken plastic inside donation boxes.

When possible, organize CDs by:

  • Artist
  • Genre
  • Box set
  • Audiobook title
  • Collection
  • Case type
  • Loose versus individually cased discs

The collection does not need to be alphabetized. It should simply be packed in a way that protects the discs and keeps related items together.

Pack CDs upright in sturdy cardboard or plastic boxes with secure bottoms.

Use manageable boxes rather than oversized containers.

Fill empty space with clean packing paper or cardboard so the cases do not shift excessively during transportation.

Each box must remain safe for one person to lift.

Do not continue adding CDs after the box becomes too heavy or begins to bend.

Use additional smaller boxes instead.

Label boxes with simple descriptions such as:

  • Music CDs
  • Classical CDs
  • Box sets
  • Audiobooks
  • Loose CDs in sleeves
  • Collectible CDs
  • Mixed CD collection

Include an approximate quantity when possible.

Store packed CDs indoors, in a dry garage or in another protected location until pickup.

Do not leave CDs exposed to rain, snow, damp ground or outdoor moisture.

If an approved pickup is being left outside, every box must be securely closed and fully protected from weather.

Do not mix cracked, contaminated or badly damaged discs with the reusable CDs.

For complete instructions, review our how to prepare your donations page before pickup.

How CD Donation Pickup Works

Complete the online form and provide your location, approximate CD quantity, number of boxes and any important access information.

Mention any large collections, box sets, loose CDs, collectible releases, audiobooks or additional donation categories.

We review:

  • Your service location
  • The approximate number of CDs
  • The number and size of boxes
  • How the CDs are packaged
  • The overall condition
  • Whether the donation includes other accepted items
  • Available vehicle space
  • Current route availability

We may contact you by email if more information or photos are needed.

Your pickup is only scheduled after you receive confirmation by email.

Preferred dates and times submitted through the form are requests and are not automatically secured.

Inspect, organize and pack the CDs in strong, manageable boxes.

Move all approved donations to the agreed ground-level pickup location. Make sure the boxes are visible and clearly separated from anything that should not be collected.

Once your pickup is confirmed, our team will collect the approved CDs from the agreed location.

Discs that are cracked, badly damaged, contaminated, improperly packed or significantly different from what was described may be declined.
