How Many Toys Are Needed for Pickup?

Our pickup service is intended for toy donations large enough to reasonably justify sending a vehicle to your location.

A few small toys, one board game or a single bag of stuffed animals will usually not qualify for pickup on their own.

A donation is more likely to qualify when it includes several boxes or bags of children’s toys, multiple larger toys, a full playroom cleanout or toys combined with other accepted donation categories.

Larger collections from families, schools, childcare providers, retailers, businesses, moving projects, downsizing or estate cleanouts may also qualify.

You do not need to count every individual toy. The overall donation volume, condition, location and current pickup routes will determine whether pickup is available.

How to Prepare Toys for Donation Pickup

Please prepare all children’s toys before your scheduled pickup.

Check every toy: Remove broken, recalled, heavily worn, mouldy or unsafe toys. Look for sharp edges, cracked plastic, loose wires, missing wheels and other damage that could make the toy unsafe.

Clean hard-surface toys: Wipe plastic, wooden and metal toys so they are free from dirt, food residue, sticky surfaces and heavy dust. Make sure every toy is completely dry before packing it.

Wash plush toys when safe: Clean stuffed animals and fabric toys according to their care instructions. They must be fully dry and free from stains, strong odours, mould, pests and major tears.

Keep sets together: Place dolls with their clothing, trains with their tracks, remote-control toys with their controllers and playsets with their accessories.

Count essential pieces: Check board games, puzzles, building kits and educational sets for the pieces needed to use them. Remove sets that are too incomplete to remain practical.

Secure small pieces: Place cards, dice, puzzle pieces, building blocks, doll accessories and other small parts in sealed bags or containers. Put each bag inside the correct game or toy box.

Test electronic toys: Confirm that electronic learning toys, remote-control toys, musical toys and other battery-operated items turn on and operate properly.

Test video game equipment: Confirm that video game consoles, handheld gaming systems and controllers turn on and operate properly.

Inspect batteries and compartments: Remove leaking, swollen or corroded batteries. Check battery compartments for damage and make sure battery covers are included.

Include required accessories: Pack chargers, controllers, remotes, power cords, instructions and other required accessories with the correct toy or gaming system.

Remove personal information: Delete user accounts, passwords, saved payment information, photographs and stored personal data from learning tablets, gaming systems and connected electronic toys.

Pack toys by type: Group dolls, building toys, games, puzzles, electronic toys, video games, stuffed animals and outdoor toys separately whenever possible.

Protect discs and cartridges: Place video game discs, cartridges and other gaming media inside protective cases or containers.

Protect fragile toys: Wrap delicate dollhouses, collectible figures, electronic toys and toys with breakable pieces before placing them in a box.

Disassemble only when necessary: If a larger toy must be taken apart, place the hardware and instructions in a labelled bag. Make sure the toy can be safely reassembled.

Do not overpack boxes: Use several manageable containers instead of one oversized or extremely heavy box.

Label every container: Use clear labels such as Kids Toys, Dolls and Figures, Games and Puzzles, Building Toys, Stuffed Animals, Electronic Toys, Video Games or Outdoor Toys.

Keep everything dry: Store packed toys indoors, in a dry garage or in another protected location until pickup.

Separate unusable toys: Do not mix broken, recalled, contaminated or incomplete toys with the children’s toys that are ready for reuse.

For complete instructions, review our how to prepare your donations page before pickup.

How Toy Donation Pickup Works

Step 1: Submit your pickup request: Complete the online form and provide your location, approximate number of boxes, bags and larger toys. Describe the main types of kids toys included and mention any electronic toys, video game equipment, ride-on toys or additional donation categories.

Step 2: We review your donation: We review your location, estimated donation volume, types of toys, overall condition, how everything is packed, other accepted items included, available vehicle space and current route availability. We may request photos or additional information by email.

Step 3: Receive email confirmation: Your pickup is only scheduled after you receive confirmation by email. Preferred dates and times submitted through the form are requests and are not automatically secured.

Step 4: Prepare and stage your toys: Clean, inspect, organize and pack all approved toys in strong, manageable boxes or bags. Place larger approved toys in the agreed pickup location and separate everything from items that should not be collected.

Step 5: We collect the approved toys: Once your pickup is confirmed, our team collects the approved toy donations. Toys that are broken, unsafe, recalled, contaminated, incomplete, improperly packed or significantly different from what was described may be declined.
