Free Donation Pickups for Music Cassettes & Tape Collections
DonateYourStuff.ca provides free scheduled donation pickup for qualifying cassette tapes across the GTA and select surrounding communities. We accept music albums, singles, soundtracks, promotional releases, imports and cassette collections.
Cassette tapes should be clean and intact, with unbroken shells and the magnetic tape fully contained inside. Tapes should be clearly identified and protected by their original case or another suitable case whenever possible.
Submit a pickup request with your location, the approximate number of cassette tapes or boxes and a general description of what you have. We will review your request and contact you by email about pickup availability.
Cassette Tape Donations We Accept
Some donations contain individual cassettes, while others include multi-tape sets, specialty collections, inserts, books or outer packaging. Matching tapes and materials should be kept together whenever possible.
The sections below explain the types of cassette tapes we accept and the important details to check for each one before adding them to your pickup request.
Why Condition Matters
Cassette tapes can only be reused when the shell and magnetic tape are clean and intact.
Tapes must be free from mould, moisture damage, broken shells, exposed tape, tangled tape and other serious damage that may prevent normal playback.
Check the clear cassette windows and exposed edges of the tape for white, grey or fuzzy mould. Cassette tapes showing any sign of mould cannot be accepted.
Cases and inserts may show ordinary shelf wear as long as they continue to protect and identify the correct cassette.
We reserve the right to decline cassette tapes at pickup if they are mouldy, seriously damaged, contaminated, unidentifiable or improperly packed.

Different languages, packaging styles and release countries do not prevent a music cassette from qualifying.
Music Cassette Tape Donations We Cannot Accept
We cannot accept cassette tapes that are mouldy, unsafe, unusable, heavily contaminated, unidentifiable or improperly prepared.
Please do not donate:
- Cassette tapes showing any sign of mould
- Wet or damp tapes
- Tapes with serious moisture damage
- Broken or cracked cassette shells
- Cassettes with missing shell pieces
- Exposed magnetic tape
- Tangled or pulled-out tape
- Snapped tape
- Tape that is stuck outside the cassette
- Cassettes with missing reels or internal parts
- Tapes with sticky residue, paint, grease or chemicals
- Home-recorded mix tapes
- Personal audio recordings
- Tapes with unknown recorded content
- Empty cassette cases with no tapes
- Large quantities of loose, unidentified cassettes
- Boxes containing shattered cases or sharp plastic
- Wet, damaged or collapsing boxes
- Cassette tapes left loose or exposed to weather
- Items that have not been prepared for pickup
Items that do not meet our donation standards may be declined at pickup.
How Many Cassette Tapes Are Needed for Pickup?
Our pickup service is intended for donations that reasonably justify sending a vehicle to your location.
One or two cassette tapes will usually not be enough on their own. Several boxes, a larger cassette collection or a mixed donation containing tapes and other accepted items is more likely to qualify.
When completing the pickup form, provide your best estimate of:
- The approximate number of cassette tapes
- The number of boxes or storage containers
- Whether the tapes have cases
- The number of tapes without original packaging
- The number of box sets
- The general types of music included
- Whether the donation includes other accepted items
For larger collections, an exact count is not required.
You may describe the donation by the number of boxes, shelves, cabinets, storage bins or cassette racks.
How to Prepare Cassette Tapes for Donation Pickup
Please prepare your music cassette tapes before your scheduled pickup.
Check carefully for mould: Look through the clear cassette windows and along the exposed edges of the tape. Remove any cassette showing white, grey or fuzzy mould. Do not pack mouldy tapes with the rest of the collection.
Inspect the cassette shells: Remove tapes with badly cracked shells, missing pieces, loose parts or exposed internal components.
Check the magnetic tape: Make sure the tape is contained inside the cassette and is not hanging out, tangled, twisted or snapped.
Match cassettes with their cases: Place each cassette in its matching case whenever possible. Make sure the correct tape is inside the correct case.
Keep sets together: Keep artist collections, multi-tape albums, classical sets and box sets together. Include all available booklets, inserts and outer packaging.
Protect tapes without cases: Place tapes without original cases in clean replacement cases or pack them securely with cardboard dividers so the shells cannot strike each other.
Replace unsafe cases: A worn or scuffed case may still be usable. Remove cases that are shattered, have sharp edges or no longer protect the cassette. Do not place broken plastic inside donation boxes.
Organize the collection: When possible, group cassette tapes by artist, genre, box set or tapes without cases. The collection does not need to be alphabetized.
Use strong boxes: Pack cassette tapes upright in sturdy cardboard or plastic boxes with secure bottoms. Use manageable boxes instead of oversized containers.
Do not overpack: Each box must remain safe for one person to lift. Use additional smaller boxes if a box becomes too heavy or begins to bend.
Fill empty space: Use clean packing paper or cardboard dividers to prevent tapes from shifting during transportation. Do not use wet or dirty packing materials.
Label every box: Use simple descriptions such as Music Cassettes, Rock Cassettes, Classical Cassettes, Box Sets or Cassettes Without Cases. Include an approximate quantity when possible.
Keep cassette tapes dry: Store packed tapes indoors, in a dry garage or in another protected location until pickup. Do not leave cassette tapes exposed to rain, snow, damp ground or outdoor moisture.
Separate unusable tapes: Do not mix mouldy, wet, contaminated or badly damaged tapes with the reusable collection.

How Cassette Tape Donation Pickup Works
Step 1: Submit your pickup request: Complete the online form and provide your location, approximate number of cassette tapes, number of boxes and any important access information. Mention any large collections, box sets, tapes without cases or additional donation categories.
Step 2: We review your donation: We review your service location, approximate cassette quantity, number and size of boxes, how the collection is packed, overall condition, other accepted items included, available vehicle space and current route availability. We may contact you by email if more information or photos are needed.
Step 3: Receive email confirmation: Your pickup is only scheduled after you receive confirmation by email. Preferred dates and times submitted through the form are requests and are not automatically secured.
Step 4: Prepare and stage your cassette tapes: Inspect, organize and pack the tapes in strong, manageable boxes. Move all approved donations to the agreed pickup location and make sure the boxes are visible and clearly separated from anything that should not be collected.
Step 5: We collect the approved cassette tapes: Once your pickup is confirmed, our team will collect the approved tapes. Items that are mouldy, seriously damaged, contaminated, improperly packed or significantly different from what was described may be declined.

Submit a pickup request with your location, approximate number of tapes, number of boxes and a general description of the collection.

No.
We do not accept personal recordings, homemade mix tapes or cassettes with unknown recorded content.
Do you accept blank cassette tapes?
Yes. Blank cassette tapes are accepted as long as they are in new condition and never been used.
Do you accept empty cassette cases?
Empty cases alone do not qualify as a cassette tape donation.
Clean replacement cases may be included with a larger qualifying cassette collection.
How many cassette tapes do I need for pickup?
One or two tapes will usually not be enough on their own.

Can you carry cassette boxes out of my basement or upstairs?
No.
Cassette tapes and other donations must be packed and moved to an accessible ground-level pickup location before the scheduled collection.
Does submitting the form confirm my pickup?
No.
The form submits a pickup request only. Your pickup is confirmed after the details have been reviewed and scheduling confirmation has been sent by email.
