Free Donation Pickups for CDs, DVDs, Cassettes, Vinyl Records & VHS
DonateYourStuff.ca provides free scheduled donation pickup for qualifying media across the GTA and select surrounding communities. We accept CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes, vinyl records, VHS tapes and mixed media collections.
Media should be clean, usable and properly protected. Box sets and multi-disc collections should have their matching discs, tapes, records, cases and inserts kept together.
Submit a pickup request with your location, the approximate number of items or boxes and a general description of the media formats you have. We will review your request and contact you by email about pickup availability.
Media Donations We Accept
Media donations include discs, records and tapes, but each format needs to be checked and packed differently. CDs and DVDs need protected playing surfaces, vinyl records should remain in their sleeves, and cassette and VHS tapes need intact shells with the tape contained inside.

Why Condition Matters
Media can only be reused when it is clean, complete and in good condition.
CDs and DVDs should be free from cracks, deep scratches and damaged data layers. Cassette tapes should have intact shells with no exposed or tangled tape. VHS tapes must be free from mould, moisture damage, broken shells and exposed or tangled tape. Vinyl records should be free from cracks, severe warping and major surface damage.
Cases, sleeves and covers may show normal wear as long as they still protect and identify the item. Light surface marks may be acceptable when the media remains usable and properly stored.
We reserve the right to decline media at pickup if it is seriously damaged, mouldy, contaminated, unsafe to handle or unsuitable for reuse.
CDs
We accept qualifying music CDs, audio CDs, singles, compilations, soundtracks, box sets, audiobooks and larger CD collections.
CDs should be clearly identified and protected in jewel cases, sleeves, digipaks, CD wallets or their original packaging. Loose discs must be packed so the playing surfaces do not rub against each other.

DVDs
We accept qualifying movie DVDs, television series, documentaries, concert DVDs, children’s DVDs, educational programs, special editions, multi-disc sets and boxed collections.
Discs should remain protected in cases or sleeves. Complete television seasons and multi-disc sets should be kept together whenever possible.

Vinyl Records
We accept qualifying vinyl records, including LPs, 45s, singles, extended plays, multi-record sets, picture discs, soundtracks and record collections.
Records should be protected in sleeves or covers and packed upright in strong boxes. Vinyl should not be stacked flat in oversized piles or packed in a way that may cause bending or warping.

Cassette Tapes
We accept qualifying prerecorded music cassettes, spoken-word tapes, audiobooks, educational recordings, box sets and cassette collections.
Cassette shells should be intact, with no serious cracks or missing pieces. The tape should remain inside the cassette and should not be tangled, pulled out or affected by mould or moisture.

VHS Tapes
We accept qualifying prerecorded VHS movies, television programs, documentaries, children’s videos, instructional tapes, concert videos and boxed VHS collections.
The cassette shell and tape should be intact. VHS tapes should be protected in cases, sleeves or sturdy boxes and kept away from moisture.

Mixed Media Collections
You can donate more than one media format in the same pickup.
Mixed collections may include:
- CDs and DVDs
- Vinyl records and cassette tapes
- VHS tapes and DVDs
- Music collections containing CDs, records and cassettes
- Film collections containing DVDs and VHS tapes
- Media collections combined with books, electronics or other accepted items
Keep each format separated when possible.
For example:
- Pack CDs and DVDs in their own boxes
- Pack vinyl records upright in record-safe boxes
- Keep cassette tapes together
- Keep VHS tapes in separate sturdy boxes
- Label each box by format
Separating different formats helps protect the items and makes the collection easier to review and process.
Box Sets & Complete Collections
We accept qualifying:
- Artist box sets
- Movie collections
- Television series

Keep all available discs, tapes, records, cases, books and inserts together.
If a set is missing an item, mention it in your pickup request when possible.
Media We Cannot Accept
We cannot accept media that is unsafe, unusable, heavily contaminated, unidentifiable or improperly prepared.
Please do not donate:
- Cracked or broken discs
- Discs with severe scratches that prevent normal use
- Warped discs
- Discs with peeling or damaged data layers
- Records that are badly cracked, broken or severely warped
- Cassette tapes with tape pulled out, tangled or badly damaged
- VHS tapes with damaged shells or exposed tape
- Media affected by mould or serious moisture damage
- Items with sticky residue, grease, paint or chemical contamination
- Homemade or burned discs
- Blank recordable CDs or DVDs
- Computer backup discs
- Personal data discs
- Software installation discs
- Home-recorded VHS tapes
- Home-recorded cassette tapes with unknown content
- Empty cases with no media inside
- Large quantities of loose, unidentified discs or tapes
- Loose discs packed without protection
- Broken plastic cases with sharp edges
- Wet, damaged or collapsing boxes
- Media left loose or exposed to weather
- Items that have not been prepared for pickup
Items that do not meet our donation standards may be declined at pickup.
How Much Media Is Needed for Pickup?
Our pickup service is intended for donations that reasonably justify sending a vehicle to your location.
A few individual CDs, DVDs or tapes will usually not be enough on their own. Several boxes, a larger media collection or a mixed donation containing media and other accepted items is more likely to qualify.
When completing the pickup form, provide your best estimate of:
- The formats being donated
- The approximate number of CDs
- The approximate number of DVDs
- The approximate number of cassette tapes
- The approximate number of vinyl records
- The approximate number of VHS tapes
- The total number of boxes or storage containers
- The number of box sets
- Whether any discs are loose
- Whether records are packed upright
- Whether the donation includes other accepted items
For larger collections, an exact count is not required.
You can describe the donation by the number of:

We will review the total quantity, formats, packaging, overall condition, available vehicle space and route availability before confirming a pickup.
How to Prepare Your Media Donation for Pickup
Please prepare your CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes, vinyl records and VHS tapes before your scheduled pickup.
Separate each media format: Pack CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes, vinyl records and VHS tapes in separate boxes whenever possible. This protects the collection and prevents heavier items from damaging more fragile media.
Inspect the items: Check for cracks, breaks, severe scratches, warping, mould, moisture, sticky residue, exposed or tangled tape, broken cases, missing pieces and heavy contamination. Remove anything that is unsafe or seriously damaged.
Match media with its packaging: Place discs, tapes and records in their matching cases, sleeves or covers whenever possible. Make sure the correct item is inside the correct packaging, and keep booklets, liner notes, inserts and other included materials with the matching release.
Keep sets together: Keep multi-disc albums, television seasons, movie collections, cassette sets, record sets and VHS box sets together. Include all available packaging and inserts.
Protect loose discs: Place loose CDs and DVDs in individual protective sleeves, labelled envelopes or organized disc wallets. Do not stack unprotected discs together.
Pack vinyl records upright: Place records upright in strong, properly sized boxes. Do not lay large numbers of records flat, overpack the box or allow the records to lean sharply.
Secure cassette and VHS tapes: Keep cassette and VHS tapes inside cases or sleeves whenever possible. Make sure the tape is not hanging outside the shell, and do not pack tapes with exposed, tangled or mouldy tape.
Replace unsafe cases: Scuffed or lightly cracked cases may still be usable. Remove or replace cases that are shattered, have sharp edges or no longer hold the media securely. Do not place broken plastic inside donation boxes.
Use strong, manageable boxes: Pack media in sturdy cardboard or plastic boxes with secure bottoms. Use smaller boxes instead of oversized moving boxes because CDs, DVDs, records and tapes become heavy quickly. Every box must remain safe for one person to lift.
Fill empty space: Use clean packing paper, cardboard dividers or other dry packing material to prevent items from shifting. Do not use wet newspaper, dirty fabric or anything that may transfer moisture or stains.
Label every box: Use clear labels such as Music CDs, DVDs, Cassette Tapes, Vinyl Records, VHS Tapes, Box Sets, Loose Discs in Sleeves or Mixed Media Collection. Include an approximate quantity when possible.
Keep everything dry: Store packed media indoors, in a dry garage or in another protected location until pickup. Do not leave media exposed to rain, snow, damp ground or outdoor moisture. If an approved pickup is left outside, every box must be securely closed and fully protected from weather.

How Media Donation Pickup Works
Step 1: Submit your pickup request: Complete the online form and provide your location, the media formats included, estimated quantities, number of boxes and any important access information. Mention any large collections, box sets, loose discs, record crates or other accepted donation categories.
Step 2: We review your donation: We review your service location, the media formats included, approximate quantity, number and size of boxes, how the collection is packed, overall condition, other accepted items included, available vehicle space and current route availability. We may contact you by email if more information or photos are needed.
Step 3: Receive email confirmation: Your pickup is only scheduled after you receive confirmation by email. Preferred dates and times submitted through the form are requests and are not automatically secured.
Step 4: Prepare and stage your media: Inspect, separate and pack the media in strong, manageable boxes. Move all approved donations to the agreed pickup location and make sure the boxes are visible and clearly separated from anything that should not be collected.
Step 5: We collect the approved media: Once your pickup is confirmed, our team will collect the approved CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes, vinyl records and VHS tapes. Items that are seriously damaged, contaminated, improperly packed or significantly different from what was described may be declined.

Have several boxes or a larger collection of CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes, vinyl records or VHS tapes ready to donate?
Submit a pickup request with your location, the formats included, approximate quantities and the total number of boxes or storage containers.

We will review your request and contact you by email regarding availability.
Once approved, pack everything securely and place the boxes in the confirmed ground-level pickup location. We handle the collection so you do not have to transport the collection to a donation centre.

We review larger music, movie and mixed-media collections based on quantity, condition, packaging, location, available vehicle space and route availability.
Do I need to count every item?
No.
For larger collections, provide your best estimate based on the number of boxes, shelves, bins, record crates or storage units.
An exact count is not required.
Do all items need their original cases?
Original cases, sleeves and covers are preferred because they protect and identify the media.
Items without original packaging may still qualify when they are clearly identified and protected in suitable replacement cases or sleeves.
Do you accept loose CDs and DVDs?
Loose discs may qualify when they are clearly identified, individually protected and included as part of a larger donation.
Do not stack loose, unprotected discs together.
Do you accept media with damaged cases?
Light case wear or small cracks may be acceptable when the case still protects the item.
Shattered cases, sharp plastic and cases that no longer hold the media securely should be removed or replaced.
Do you accept mixed boxes of media?
Yes, but separating each format is preferred.
If you must use a mixed box, protect each format and make sure heavier items cannot damage records, discs or tapes.
